About Me
Chad Porter was born and raised in Southeast Idaho. Chad has over 25 years of experience in the social services, helping other people. He has worked with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings. Chad's previous work experiences include work at residential inpatient settings, counseling agencies, developmental group homes, school districts, and a psychiatric hospital. Chad has also spent years as a medical social worker practicing in settings such as a medical hospital, in Home Health, and in Hospice.
Chad earned his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Idaho State University and his Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Northwest Nazarene University where he specialized in assessment and psychotherapy with individuals, children, and families. He is credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Chad has been providing psychotherapy to individuals, children, and families for over 14 years.
As a clinical social worker, Chad enjoyes providing supervision, mentorship, and leadership to colleagues, students, and other professionals. Chad has always had a passion for helping others and treats a wide variety of problems such as: depression/mood disorders, anxiety, stress, self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, behavior problems, family conflict, marital difficulty, sexuality, substance abuse, and other addictions.
Chad has a passion for working with those suffering from depression and anxiety, those experiencing grief, those who have experienced trauma, and those with relationship difficulties. Chad has also enjoyed success working with individuals with developmental disabilities/delays. He believes that counseling is a place where people can safely feel heard, understood, and validated without fear of judgment. Chad's primary therapeutic modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). He also brings in elements from several other modalities, to tailor-make therapeutic approaches that would fit each individual best.
Chad also works as a school counselor, providing service to our community in that capacity, as well. In his free time, Chad enjoys reading, singing, weightlifting, health and wellness, traveling, family time, and cooking. Chad currently offers In-Person services on Fridays and Telehealth services on Fridays and some weeknights.
